❗️Infestation Indicators

Mice

• Smaller droppings (about the size of a grain of rice)

• Gnaw small holes (pencil-sized)

• More frequent sightings due to their curiosity

Rats

• Larger droppings (up to 2 cm)

• Gnaw large holes (quarter-sized or bigger)

•Usually leave greasy smear marks along walls (from their fur)

👀 Appearance

Fleas

• 1–3 mm, dark brown/black, narrow body, long legs for jumping

Bed bugs

• 4–7 mm, reddish-brown, flat oval body, cannot jump or fly

Fleas

•J ump long distances, move fast

Bed bugs

• Crawlers, hide in cracks and crevices of almost anything

🏠 Habitat

Fleas

• Caught from an infested area or host - Lives on host (cats/dogs), in carpets, upholstery, pet bedding etc

Bed bugs

• Brought in from an external source - live in mattresses, bed frames, headboards, baseboards, luggage, furniture etc

 

 

🧛🏻‍♂️ Bite Patterns

Fleas

• Mostly on ankles/lower legs but can bite anywhere of the body; random clusters; very itchy; red center 

Bed bugs

• On arms, neck, back; know to appear in lines or clusters

 

 

⚠️Behavior

Fleas

•Feed often; live on animals; can survive without a host for a while.

Bed bugs

• Feed at night on humans - attracted by body heat and carbon dioxide. Lays dormant otherwise; can survive months without feeding

Fleas

• Pets scratching, flea dirt (tiny black specks), jumping insects, eggs in carpet

Bed bugs

• Blood-colored stains on sheets, tiny black spots (fecal marks), shed skins​
